Environmental and Occupational

Exposure Spot-Checks

Many insurers, regulators (including the HSE), and internal compliance teams now require periodic or ad hoc assessments of environmental and occupational health risks – particularly in industrial, manufacturing, and process environments.

We offer a spot-check assessment service to support compliance, provide assurance, and identify key workplace exposures. This service is commonly used to satisfy insurance conditions, respond to regulatory scrutiny, or verify safety following changes in plant or process operations.

What the Spot-Check Covers

Short-term, on-site assessments using calibrated instruments to monitor:

  • Dust and particulate matter (including wood, metal, and respirable dusts)
  • Fumes and gases (e.g. welding fume, solvent vapours)
  • Workplace noise levels
  • Chemical exposure risks

Assessments include identification of breaches against relevant limits (HSE EH40, COSHH WELs) and highlight any immediate concerns.

Next Steps and Follow-On Services

Where required, findings are documented in formal Risk Assessments authored by Chartered Occupational Hygienists. These outputs can support:

  • Internal audits and ongoing compliance
  • Reporting to insurers or regulators
  • Scoping and design of appropriate control measures

Where long-term assurance is needed, we can also provide quotations for real-time 24/7 environmental monitoring systems, configured to the exposure profiles identified.

Air Quality, Exposure Risk & Noise Surveys

In addition to spot-checks, we offer a full range of occupational hygiene, health & safety, and environmental monitoring services. All assessments are delivered by qualified specialists in line with HSE, NEBOSH, and Faculty of Occupational Hygiene guidelines.
