Sustainable Smart Technologies monitors the indoor environment at an office building (1,900m²) in the North West. One of the first observations we made was that the building heating system was misconfigured.

The building was being heated to 22.5°C during the day, and this increased to 24.5°C overnight. After we brought this to the attention of the estates team, action was taken to reduce the set-point and to correct the night-time heating error. A conservative estimate for the direct savings of this would be £6,500 and 3,240kg CO₂e per year.

Subject to the preferences of local staff and working patterns, further savings could be realised by lowering setpoints further to 19°C, as recommended by the Energy Saving Trust.
